Six Decades of Prairie Hauling

From one truck in 1965 to 11 super B trains serving four provinces

Barnhart Transport Freightliner double trailer hauling grain across a Prairie highway

In 1965, Jim and Ellen Barnhart started with one tandem truck — hauling gravel in the summer, and snow in the winter, whatever it took to keep the family business moving.

By the mid-1990s, the company had grown beyond aggregate, adding grain hauling to meet the needs of Prairie farmers. Steady, careful growth turned that single truck into a fleet of 11 super B trains.

Today, Darren Barnhart — who grew up in the business — leads as president with the same hands-on approach his parents built the company on.

We still treat every customer like a neighbor, because reliability isn't a slogan here. It's what's kept us in business for six decades across four provinces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to help you decide if we're the right hauling partner

We provide full freight hauling coverage across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Northwestern Ontario. Our 11 super B trains operate throughout the region, and we're set up to handle both short regional runs and longer cross-province routes without disruption to your schedule.

We specialize in three freight types: aggregate (gravel, sand, stone, construction materials), grain (custom harvest and year-round transport), and fertilizer (seasonal and contract hauling). Each service is backed by the same 60-year reliability standard, regardless of freight type.

Standard routes typically require about 48 hours notice for scheduling. If you have an urgent hauling need, give us a call directly at 204-669-4591 — we do our best to accommodate time-sensitive requests, especially during peak harvest and construction seasons.

Yes. We carry full commercial cargo insurance and operate in complete compliance with the Motor Vehicle Transport Act, Highway Traffic Act, and National Safety Code. Every one of our 11 super B trains undergoes regular safety inspections and preventive maintenance.

Absolutely. Many of our grain and fertilizer customers work with us on seasonal or ongoing contract arrangements, which helps us plan capacity and gives you priority scheduling. Submit a quote request and mention you're interested in a contract to get started.

Our fleet operates super B configurations, giving us significantly more hauling capacity per trip than standard single-trailer setups. This means fewer trips, faster turnaround, and lower cost per load — whether you're moving a single delivery or a full harvest's worth of grain.

Our core coverage is Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Northwestern Ontario, but we evaluate out-of-region requests on a case-by-case basis. Submit your quote request with pickup and delivery details, and we'll let you know within 24 hours if we can make it work.

Fill out the quote request form with your freight type, pickup/delivery locations, and load volume. A member of our team will review the details and get back to you with a quote within 24 hours — no obligation, no pressure.
